DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Fans of Robert “The Jet” Bailey helped him take off and take away the inaugural Ocean Walk Shoppes Daytona Beach Thunder fan MVP award in a poll conducted on the team’s official web site www.dbthunder.net
Bailey came from behind and overtook kicker Andy Eminger’s early lead while garnering 46.2 percent of the 318 votes cast. Eminger finished second with 29.6 percent/ Defensive back Nick Allison was a distant third at 5.7 percent, while Durell Preston, Rashaan Kearney, Oscar Davenport, Dereck Rivers, Joe Giddens, Brad Lee and Tommy Moody also received votes.
“It always means a lot when you know the fans are behind you,” Baile said. “I want to thank the fans for voting for me and Ocean Walk Shoppes for sponsoring the contest.”
Bailey finished 2006 with 56 catches for 920 yards and 23 touchdowns while returning 37 kickoffs for 966 yards and two scores. He was a first team all-conference selection for kickoff returns and a second team selection as a receiver.
Ocean Walk Shoppes, the eclectic collaboration of fine shopping, dining, and entertainment in the heart of the Daytona Beach tourism corridor, will provide Bailey and a fan prize pack that includes a stay at Ocean Walk Village and certificates at the various Ocean Walk Shoppes establishments.
“It’s been a treat hosting the Thunder’s pre-game party this season and we’re looking forward to a long and prosperous relationship with our football team,” said Pamela Rudd. “We congratulate Robert for winning the contest and hope he enjoys the unique combination of goodies that awaits him.”
The Thunder is gearing up for its second season, with a home opener slated for Feb. 11, 2007 at the Ocean Center across the street from Ocean Walk Shoppes.
