Daytona Beach Surf Team
Resilience Through Turbulent Waters
2006-04-20
Article Written by: Benjamin Cameron

Anything worth achieving is worth working hard for. Anything worth working hard for is worth waiting for. The Daytona Beach Community College Surf Team knows that firsthand. After a four year period of inactivity due to lack of funding and other obstacles, they are back in action and holding tight the reigns of triumph over adversity. Surfing away from the East Coast Championships at Sebastian Inlet, Fl. with an impressive first place victory, they have secured a spot at the national championships to be held in California from June 22, 2006 to July 1, 2006. Holy wow, what a come back!

Team members include: Robert DeCorah (Team Manager/Photographer), Fred Harden (Team Coach), Todd Kinsey (Team Captain), Ricky Pasternak, John Lewis, Tommy Grooms, Frank Senese, Jason Picallos, Austin Groves, Mike Anderson, and Jacqui Damore.

Like anything, those who are not active participants won't be able to comprehend the full scope of the endeavor, but passion manifests in as many different forms as there are stars in the sky. Surfing just happens to be one of them. Go to the NSAA article for more information about the DBCC Surf Team's valiant victory, and be sure to visit their myspace at www.MySpace.com/dbccSurfTeam to stay current with them.

Franky Senese

Congratulations to the DBCC Surf Team for coming back so strong and confident after a period of hibernation since 2002...their passion is coming alive as they meet each new challenge. As their resilience has returned them to the action and to the top of the East Coast Championships, the crest of each wave is carrying them closer to the achievement of their highest aspirations.
