Florida, the Land of Sunshine, is known for relatively mild winters, and while many of us have found ourselves freezing at some point during our Floridian tenure, this winter is starting out to be one envied by our northern friends.  Many of our fellow Americans are trapped indoors due to unpleasant weather and even though some places such as Indianapolis are experiencing a heat wave (yes, ladies and gentlemen, they consider 45 degrees to be a heat wave), they don’t have the comfortable outside temperatures of the upper 70’s and lower 80’s.  To take advantage of this fantastic weather, it’s time to go outdoors and experience some of the parks in Port Orange.

The City of Port Orange has many parks beneficial to anyone with an appreciation for outdoor activity.  From picnicking to fishing or from playgrounds to sport activities, the local parks have something for everyone.

Port Orange City Hall

Airport Road Park
Located at 6751 Airport Road, the park has tennis courts and a playground.

All Children’s Park
The All Children’s Park is located at 5959 Spruce Creek Road.  The park has picnic areas, a playground, a boardwalk and walking trails.

Buschman Park
While the park is currently being updated, completed improvements include a pavilion, a walk path, a lake and a picnic area.   A playground is also in the works for the future.  This park is located at 4575 Spruce Creek Road.

The City Center Sports Complex
The sports complex includes five baseball/softball fields, two soccer fields, four batting cages, a playground, and a picnic area.  The city center lake and the skate park are also nearby.  The lake is a great place to walk, run, or roller blade around.  The skate park is a great place to use scooters, skateboards, roller blades and BMX bikes.

Memorial Park
This park features another area lake that is great to walk, run, and roller blade around.  A boardwalk and a fishing area are also at the lake, in addition to a picnic area.  Pets are welcome at the park, but please be sure to clean up their mess.  Memorial Park can be found at 3801 Jackson Street.

Port Orange Causeway Park
Located at the Port Orange bridge, the park features seven boat ramps and three fishing piers along with picnic areas that include grills.  This is a great place to enjoy the beauty of the Halifax River.

Riverside Pavilion Park
Located on the Halifax River, this park features gorgeous views of the water.  The park features a fishing pier and picnic area, along with a playground.  This park can be found at 3431 South Ridgewood Avenue.

White Place Park
This park features a ball field, an all-purpose athletic field, two tennis courts, two bocce ball courts, four shuffleboard courts, horseshoe pits, a playground, and a picnic area.  Located south of Dunlawton off Ridgewood Boulevard, this park can be found at 210 White Place.

Willow Run Park
Located near Horizon Elementary at 1351 School House Drive, this park has two baseball fields, two tennis courts, eight basketball courts, an all-purpose athletic field, a playground, picnic areas, and a pavilion.
