DBCC and Fresh Start Present An Evening of Jazz and Swing To Benefit the DBCC Women’s Center Fresh Start Program
The Rick Martorano 17-piece Concert Jazz Band will be performing on Friday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. at the Daytona Beach Community College Theater Center. The concert theme is “An Evening of Jazz and Swing” featuring a repertoire of jazz and swing standards. All proceeds from the event will benefit clients of the DBCC Women’s Center Fresh Start Program.
The Fresh Start Program helps women get the training and education needed to secure higher-wage jobs that have benefits and growth opportunities, allowing them to better support themselves and their families. Through a variety of free classes, workshops, and seminars, participants receive emotional support and practical tools to build self esteem, gain confidence, establish goals, write a resume, locate job opportunities, and gain additional training or education.
“This is going to be a really fun evening for everyone. We are thrilled that Dr. Martorano and his colleagues have generously offered their support to our program. You can count on hearing some of your favorite jazz and swing hits. We’ll also have a few surprises” said Isabelle Liberatore, the Coordinator of the Women’s Center Fresh Start Program.
The Rick Martorano 17 piece Concert Jazz Band is comprised of area professionals from every walk of life. The band enjoys regional acclaim for its concert jazz format. The “Evening of Jazz and Swing” concert will feature popular jazz standards by Count Basie, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, Buddy Rich and Woody Herman. Audience members will enjoy a special salute to the “Andrew Sisters” with a live performance by dancers from the Dayton Beach Fred Estaire Dance Studio.
Tickets for the event are $10.00 and can be purchased at the DBCC Theater Center box office or at the door the evening of the performance. For ticket information, please call (386) 506-3042, Building 220, Room 100.
