Tattoo Todd pulled double duty this week on the radio show, (heard live on 95.7FM The Hog and on www.blacksheepradio.net.) Tim Finnegan was unable to add his “Words Of Wisdom” or “Bitch Of The Week” this time around, so Todd did the honors. We heard music and interviews from Twisted Lemon, Shawn Fisher and D.C. North during the hour-long program. The radio show should be simulcast at www.jaxrock.com in the coming weeks. We’ll keep you posted as to when that will begin.
This week’s show schedule had Twisted Lemon and Shawn Fisher, (both from Jacksonville,) and D.C. North from Tampa. D.C. North arrived at Finnegan’s Beachside Pub in Flagler Beach for the live show quite early, (7:00 for their scheduled 11:00 set.) The band had traveled over three hours from Tampa to play the show, so they wanted to be on time. The other thing on the band’s mind was their drummer’s health. The band’s drummer Austin, had been sick all day. The band decided to make the trek to Flagler Beach anyway, in the hopes of Austin’s health improving, and the band being able to play their set. That was not meant to be. D.C. North arrived, showed their support for the show, but was forced to leave due to Austin not being able to perform. We will have D.C. North back soon.
First to hit the Finnegan’s stage was 17 year old singer/songwriter from Jacksonville, Shawn Fisher. Shawn has an amazing vocal range, and is quite a talent on the guitar as well. Shawn performed all 3 songs that we heard on the radio program and filled a substantial amount of the time left available by
D.C. North’s misfortune. There was a lot of support in the audience for Shawn and I believe that every CD that Shawn brought with him was distributed to members of the Finnegan’s audience. Check out more on Shawn Fisher at www.myspace.com/shawnfisher.
Next up was Twisted Lemon. We usually manage to have a great time at the show every week, but Twisted Lemon is a band that really provides their own fun as well. They play a brand of New Classic Rock, along with some real old school metal as well. The band is co-fronted by Scottie Blu and Jay-Stephen Fagan. Scottie plays rhythm guitar, and Jay supplies the band with percussion in the form of congas at the front of the stage.
The two compliment each other nicely, and provide some really good stage presence for the band. On drums is “Wild” Bill Caton. Bill was our main contact in the weeks leading up to the show, and his professionalism both musically and administratively were very much appreciated. On bass guitar was Bob Langan, and rounding out the band’s lineup was Ross Tucker on lead guitar. Ross informed me that he is completely self taught on the guitar. What he might lack in theory, he more than makes up for in his licks. The band played all 3 songs heard earlier on the radio show as well, and since they were under the gun to fill some time, played a 2 hour set for the Finnegans crowd. When The Scene expands it’s horizons to Jacksonville, you can believe that Twisted Lemon will be back on our show. You can read all about Twisted Lemon at www.twisted-lemon.com.
This Sunday, (July16th,) we will be featuring Callous, (another band from Jacksonville,) and all the way from Hilton Head Island, SC: Prologic13.
