THE SCENE – JUNE 18TH, 2006
UNISON & NO CIRCUS
2006-06-20
Article Written by: Dan Lang

June 18th, 2006 was Tattoo Todd’s third appearance in his return as host of the original music show called "The Scene", and it was his best to date. The interviews, though always informative in the past, are becoming more insightful with each passing week. This week, Todd welcomed Shannon Peterson of Unison and James Killgallon of the band No Circus to the show. Both bands were of course on last night’s bill for "The Scene", and interviews with each were conducted before the concert at Finnegan’s Beachside Pub in Flagler Beach.no circus

Tattoo Todd opened "The Scene" with his interview of James (guitar, vocals, song writer) from No Circus. When asked what he would do if given the choice of going to college or signing with a label, James said without hesitation that he would opt for the record deal now, as college is something that he could always come back to. I would be remiss if I did not mention that James is only 15 years old. Joe and Josh, his band mates, are both 16 years old. James and Tattoo Todd provided us with an entertaining spot on the show, and No Circus followed up with a great live performance. There was a nice crowd on hand, and I believe it’s safe to say that they were amazed at the skills displayed by this young trio. All three members of the band are extremely talented, and I don’t mean just for their age. These guys could go up against anyone on the scene today, and shine through. Though very young, No Circus plays an old school Blues style of original music. They have an appreciation for the classic blues musicians of the past and today, and put on a great set. For more on No Circus, go to www.myspace.com/nocircus. This is a band that you need to see to really appreciate.

The other featured band last night was Unison out of Orlando. As mentioned previously, Unison was represented by Shannon Peterson, (lead guitar and vocals,) during the interview. Shannon took us through the early years of the band as they kicked around the music scene in Buffalo, New York. Todd asked him why the band decided to relocate to Florida, and Shannon explained that the "Buffalo music scene was stagnant, well, it’s a graveyard". He also mentioned that though the Orlando scene is flooded with a lot of bands all pointing at the same goal, the competition is something that Unison thrives on. The band features Mark Izzo on guitar, Corey Peterson on Drums, Shannon Peterson on lead guitar and vocals, and the band has unisonjust added a new bass player, due to ex-bass player Melissa Major moving on to other projects in the past month. Their set last night at Finnegan’s was totally electric. The band had the crowd singing along to the songs from their new album "By The Time We Get There", and their energy on stage is something that separates this band from others in Orlando. The high point of Unison’s set was when they played their hit, "Summer Madness". This is not only one of my personal favorite songs from a local band; it’s one of my favorite songs from any band. The band mixed in covers from Guns ‘N Roses and The Doors to round out their set, and closed the show with their song "Vacancy". For more info on Unison, go to www.unisonrocks.com or www.myspace.com/unison.

Great night, great bands, great crowd. If you’re one of the people that missed it, you can redeem yourself this coming Sunday, June 25th when The Scene welcomes The Johnny Bulford Band from Orlando and Wonderful Johnson from Sarasota. See you next week.
