"The Scene" is a local original music show that has aired on 95.7FM "Daytona’s Classic Rock Station" The HOG for the past two years. The show features unsigned bands in the Volusia and Flagler County areas, as well as bands touring through from just about anywhere in the world. Every Sunday night at eight o’clock, two bands are featured on the show with interviews, and a generous sampling of their music. Immediately following the radio broadcast, both bands perform a live show at Finnegan’s Beachside Pub in Flagler Beach.

The Scene"The Scene" was created by radio personality "Tattoo Todd" and local club owner Tim Finnegan back in 2004. Through the first year, the show introduced such acts as OverlorD, Luna Dementia, InTension, Stemm Cell, and many others to the local music scene. By the end of the show’s first year, Tattoo Todd had built quite an impressive following. From week to week you would see the crowds at the live show grow, and listenership to the radio show was increasing consistently.

On Sunday June 4th, "The Scene" celebrated its two year anniversary. The fact that the show had managed to continue for two years was quite an accomplishment in itself, but there was another reason to celebrate that night. This show marked the return of Tattoo Todd to the airwaves, and as host of the live show. Todd left the show in the summer of 2005 and had been off the air until this night. This show also marked the first time that the program was recorded and produced entirely at OverlorD Studios.

Todd's notable return was marked by a great crowd turnout, as well as a job well done producing the radio show. "The Scene" called on area favorites Voodoo Hodown, Stemm Cell and OverlorD to help welcome Tattoo Todd back. All three bands were on top of their game that night, and the show was quite possibly the best one to date.

This past Sunday night June 11th, The Scene featured Fish Pocket from Oviedo, and In Visible Ink from Merritt Island. A local favorite, The Jimmy Mason Project, was added to the concert lineup. Jimmy Mason played a solo acoustic set, followed by the raw, straightforward rock of In Visible Ink.

TatooEach week during the broadcast, Tim Finnegan (show sponsor and local music supporter) is featured on two separate occasions. He and Todd usually open the show with some banter, and then later in the broadcast, Tim is called upon for his "Bitch Of The Week". Tim's bitch this week involved traffic lights in the greater Daytona Beach area; something about how the lights are timed to change to red right after the one you've been sitting at turns green. Tim and Todd work great together, they just click. Todd has a way of pushing Tim’s buttons; Tim is naturally entertaining without even trying, and plays right along.

The show now includes many different features and helpful hints, geared at guiding the local unsigned musician in the right direction. With Tattoo Todd at the helm, they hope to bring back that ‘family’ feeling that "The Scene" seems to have been lacking since Todd’s departure.

This week’s show, (airing at 8:00, Sunday, June 18th) will feature a great young band from Deland called No Circus, and from Orlando, Unison. You can check out both bands on My Space at www.myspace.com/nocircus and www.myspace.com/unison respectively.

In the coming weeks the show has plans to simulcast on Internet radio stations like www.blacksheepradio.net and at www.insomniaradio.net. The Scene will also be featured right here on www.whatshappeningdaytona.com with a review from the previous week’s show, and a look ahead at the upcoming show.
