Cardiovascular Exercise
Introduction for Beginners
2006-01-03
Article Written by: Sami Jo

Taking the time out of your busy schedule to engage in some healthy exercise will not only make you look better, but more importantly, feel better.  Proper exercise reduces stress and increases energy.  Cardiovascular activity is one of the most important forms of exercise as it keeps the heart strong, increases lung capacity, and burns calories to help you to lose weight, among many other things.  Popular cardio activities include running, walking, swimming, biking, rollerblading, aerobics and sports.

When choosing a cardiovascular activity, it’s important to pick something you enjoy.  Cardio exercise can be done individually or in groups and engaging in various kinds of cardio activity helps prevent boredom.  Keep in mind that any exercise can be challenging depending on how hard you work.  In order to lose weight, cardiovascular exercise should be done at least four times a week for at least 30 minutes each time.

Since cardiovascular activities can be done practically anywhere, it isn’t necessary to have a gym membership to improve your health.  Gyms do provide equipment such as treadmills, exercise bikes, elliptical machines and many of them also offer aerobics classes.  However, Daytona Beach boasts 25 miles of beautiful beach that is a great place to run and walk.  The ocean is also a great place to swim.  Additionally, there are many parks and recreation facilities in the area that are free and open to the public.

If you have experienced health problems in the past, please consult a physician before engaging in strenuous physical activity.  If you are a parent, please make sure your children are doing some sort of cardio activity, as obesity has become a major problem among children these days.
