The taste of art
An Artist Coffeehouse in the European Tradition
2005-06-02
Article Written by: Cheryl! Tisland

I headed out to Deland tonight to check out the Café Da Vinci, an eclectic and quaint spot for local artists. I heard that they have open mic night on Thursday nights, and I am always interested in experiencing the local talent around the area. I was quite impressed when I walked in. The sights, sounds and smells were comfortable and inviting. A local singer was on stage filling the room with song, and fabulous art could be seen on all of the walls.

As soon as I walked out to the 4000 square foot courtyard, I became awe-struck. The courtyard is beautiful with tiki torches and dim lights around the trees. Around the courtyard are pieces of beautiful architectural remnants from old demolished buildings in the area. The owner has been working since Spring of 1981 to salvage and re-use the artifacts and details from buildings in the Central Florida area that are being demolished as a way to preserve the history of the area’s buildings. He owns Florida Victorian Architectural Antiques and displays many of the pieces in the courtyard of the Café Da Vinci.

I took a seat in the courtyard and listened to the music and singing coming from the local artists performing inside. On the menu I was pleased to see many different fine wines, espresso and even Sake. I ordered an oriental pasta salad that came on a beautiful gold colored square plate and tasted wonderful. I highly recommend the Café Da Vinci to anyone who appreciates local art and architecture. Additionally, their courtyard is available for private parties and weddings.
