DBCC offers third wine appreciation course
(Daytona Beach, Fla., 08/02/06) - Since it was first offered in April, the five-week Wine Appreciation course has inspired more than just an appreciation of fine wines. According to Dr. Theodore Sofianos, coordinator for this program, "A number of the participates have developed friendships beyond the length of the course. Providing not only an education about wine appreciation, the course is becoming quite the social event." Given that the next course is scheduled to begin Wednesday, Sept. 6 - just in time for a sneak-peek of the Southeast Museum of Photography's fall exhibition - something that only course participates will be able to enjoy.
Presented by the Center for Business & Industry (DBCC) at Daytona Beach Community College (DBCC), in conjunction with ABC Fine Wines & Spirits, the Wine Appreciation course is hosted by Heather Lo.
Participants will be introduced to the basics of the wine-making process and how the vintner's art can influence the process to obtain an array of palatable results. Additionally, Wine Appreciation students will gain the knowledge essential to reading and understanding a wine's label. During each session, four to five different wines will be discussed, tasted, historically reminisced, and recommended for various pairings with food- the first and last class will include a variety of cheeses. This experience is sure to be an educational and social event for those who find viticulture (wine-making) intriguing!
Classes will be held on consecutive Wednesdays beginning Sept. 6, from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m., at the Southeast Museum of Photography located on the DBCC Daytona Beach Campus, 1200 W. Int'l Speedway Blvd.
Course fee is $99 and includes wine, a selection of cheeses (Sept. 6 and Oct. 4 classes only), bottled water, wine glasses, and instructional materials.
For additional information or to register, please call Dr. Theodore Sofianos at (386) 506-3103 or Joanne at 506-4224.
