St. Mark By the Sea in Palm Coast to Consecrate a National Biker Memorial on October 21
Continuing in their tradition of blessing both motorcycles and riders, St. Mark By the Sea Lutheran Church in Palm Coast will consecrate the ground that will be used for the creation of a memorial garden and a National Biker Memorial at St. Mark By the Sea on Saturday, October 21. The area will host a columbarium (where the cremated remains of an individual are stored in a niche) in the setting of a beautiful garden with a fountain, benches and seating. A special section will be named Wings and Wheels: National Biker Memorial, and will be available to all Bikers and their families from across the country. This section will offer memorial tiles and pavers that may be engraved with the names of fallen bikers.
The Rite of Consecration blesses and declares a space as “sacred.” The Rite of Consecration will take place at 11:00 AM, between the blessings of motorcycles and riders. The Memorial is located on the grounds of the church. St. Mark By The Sea Lutheran Church is located at 303 Palm Coast Parkway Northeast , in Palm Coast , Florida .
"The National Biker Memorial is an _expression of our commitment to live into our mission statement which reminds us that we have been called "to invite, nurture, and serve the whole people of God'"' noted the Rev. Tom Bingol, Pastor of St. Mark By the Sea. "The word ‘columbarium’ comes from a Latin word that means “nestling dove.” More importantly, it creates a sense of “place” where one can be remembered. Each year as the congregation gathers in the Spring and Fall to bless motorcycles and riders, they toll the bell for those bikers who have passed on. The Memorial provides a place where these annual services will honor fallen bikers and those who loved them and shared their interest."
The Rev. Robert Schaefer , Bishop’s Assistant to the North Mission District of the Florida-Bahamas Synod has been invited to assist in the consecration. Elected officials and government representatives, representatives of motorcycle-related businesses, parishioners and neighbors will be attending.
In addition to consecrating the Land, prayers will offered for all who travel and especially for those who are participating in Biketoberfest 2006.
St. Mark By The Sea has a long commitment to this community and welcomes all bikers to join us for Sunday Services at 7:45 AM (Matins) 8:45 AM (Contemporary) and 11:00 AM (Traditional) during your stay. We are located approximately one mile east of I-95, next to the Sun Trust Bank. Private Blessing of Bikes and Riders can be arranged by appointment.
