Volusia County Citizen Corps Coordinator Ray "Rocky" Siracusa has announced a Volunteer Recruitment Expo, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 10. The Expo, which is free and open to the public, will be held at Riverside Pavilion, 3431 Ridgewood Ave., Port Orange.
Citizen Corps was created to help coordinate volunteer activities that will make our communities safer, stronger and better prepared to respond to any emergency situation. The organization recruits and coordinates volunteers for various Volusia county-wide programs, including: Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), Citizens On Patrol (COPs), Volunteers In Police Service (VIPS), USA on Watch, Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES), Volusia County Animal Control and others.
Citizen volunteers are what makes this community work. "We encourage everyone who's able to volunteer to come out and see what's available, and we'd like them to help us get the word out to local friends and neighbors. We want people to know specifics on the services available in our community and what they can do, in the event of an emergency."
Many volunteer opportunities are available to help citizens make their families, their homes and their communities safer from all threats -- including crime, terrorism and disasters of all kinds.
