The WHD crew has had many opportunities recently to visit Red Tails, a fun, lively, inviting bar and grill. The atmosphere is the kind that makes you feel right at home and comfortable. The staff is always ready to greet with a smile and serve up a great drink.
This two-story bar & grill, located on Beach Street, is a great place to hang out after work for a quick beer or late night for live music and conversation with friends. Sports fanatics will love the large collection of TVs that allow you to see the games or fights from any seat in the house, and even a giant screen right above the front entrance. We had a great time during the Tyson fight with our sports journalist and some other friends. The crowd was lively, as would be expected during such a fight, and the sounds of the band, Breaking Ground (recently featured in our artist showcase), added to the vibe and enjoyment.
Tuesday night is college night and definitely the craziest. Ladies drink free 10pm to close and guys get $2 Bud and Bud Light. On this night, the crowd well surpasses one thousand patrons upstairs, downstairs, inside and outside. The DJ plays a mix of great music and elbowroom is extremely limited. Be prepared to weave your way through the crowd and get close and friendly with everyone. The outdoor patio is a great place to hangout and get some air and is equally packed.
Live music fills the bar on Thursdays with Breaking Ground, Fridays with Michael Makepeace, and Saturdays with Re-Form. Unlike some other bars, the sound is great and the bands play a mix of original and cover tunes.
Happy hour at Red Tails is the best around with 3-for-1 drinks and half price appetizers from 3pm to 8pm seven days a week. The late night happy hour is Midnight to 1am with 2-for-1 drinks. Red Tails is also a great place for a late afternoon or early evening dinner, and if you really want to impress your date, be sure to ask for a table upstairs where you will find a colonial style sitting room with a small bar, brick walls, wooden floors and a scenic view of downtown Daytona Beach. Late nights, you may even catch the fireworks from the Bandshell.
Additionally, this bar and grill packs quite a punch with their full menu of delicious entrees. We highly recommend the Red Tail Hot Wings or the Beach Street Hickory Burger. The spinach and artichoke dip comes with cool red-colored tortilla chips in keeping with the red theme. Also, be sure to try some of their specialty brews such as their own Red Tail Ale. If you are really daring, try a skull splitter.
