Biketoberfest
The Big Wheels are back!
2005-10-20
Article Written by: Charles Griffin

Biketoberfest is back--and being chased by a hurricane--but that's another story. Biketoberfest in the Daytona area was once Bike Week's little brother. Originally intended to be a regional event and to bring area businesses and hoteliers a boost in post-September income, the four-day event has grown way past what the Daytona Beach Halifax Area Chamber of Commerce planned.

Bikers, especially the trailered variety, have been rolling into town since October 16. Vendors have been bending the rules and setting up early to cater to the ever-larger number of bikers. This year Main St. parking became all bikes on Monday, 17 Oct. and the event doesn't officially begin until Thursday, the 20th.

If last year is a guide--unless Hurricane Wilma intercedes--the bikers will hang out until the following weekend, making the event as profitable and as congesting as the more famous (or infamous, depending on your viewpoint) Spring Bike Week.
