Neil Simon’s Proposals

Sands Theater Center set to open on Friday November 3rd.

Retreat to the 1950’s with the Hines Family in the Sands Theater Center production of Neil Simon’s Proposals.

# Proposals opens at the Sands Theater Center on Friday, November 3, 2006 and has a limited run of three weeks, closing on Sunday, November 19. Performance times are 8p on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, with Sunday matinees at 2:30p.

This memory play delightfully recalls the last time the Hines family gathered at their retreat in the Pocono’s. That summer in 1953 was one of animated romantic entanglements that overlap on one idyllic afternoon. Burt Hines (John Melito), a 55 year old recovering workaholic convalescing from a second heart attack, eagerly anticipates the arrival of the ex wife (Cira Vance) he still loves.# His daughter Josie (Gina Rivera) has just broken her engagement to an intense Havard law student (Christian Read) and pines for his buddy Ray (Matt Wallace). Clemma (Trina Parham), the black housekeeper at the center of the action, is dreading a visit from the husband (Dene Gainey) who deserted her years before. A model (Julie Snyder) with a strikingly dim intellect shows up on Ray’s arm, and a young Miami gangster (Michael Plummer) with a gift for malapropisms bring comic hilarity to the gathering.

#The Sands Theater Center is located inside the Cultural Arts Center , ½ mile north of downtown DeLand at 600 N. Woodland Boulevard . Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $8 for students and children. Group pricing is also available. To order tickets or for further information, call the box office at (386) 736-7456.

The 20th Anniversary Mainstage Season also includes: the 2007 DeLand Theatre Festival, January 19-28, 2007; Inherit the Wind, March 9-25, 2007; and Pirates of Penzance, May 4-20, 2007.
