Ormond Beach, FL.................Figurative, an exciting collection of the work of eight (8) diverse artists will open September 15, 2006 with an emphasis on human form. The show will run through October 29th, Monday - Friday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday, 12:00 - 4:00.

Florence Putterman
Featured artists are; Cedomir Djordjievski, Carol Doenecke, Cesar Garcia, Kevin Grass, Margaret Schnebly Hodge, Sandy Johnson, Jose Antonia Suarez Londono and Florence Putterman.

This satisfying medly of interpretations will span the telegraphic style of Australian Sandy Johnson, whose most recent exhibition at the Wilson Adams Gallery, Denver, Colorado features her sensual pastels. Ormond Art Museum will show a group of intriguing pastel portaits by Johnson, whose style of layering up color to grab and hold attention has made her one of the most collectable contemporary north Florida artists.

Sandy Johnson
Color is the binding ingredient between Johnson and Florence Putterman, a Sarasota, Florida artist whose main studio space and home in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania has been featured in numerous publications, including American Artist, Architectural Record and House Beautiful. Putterman, an MFA graduate and recipient of a Distinguished Alumni Award from Penn State, taught printmaking at both Lycoming College and Susquehanna University for 12 years. Her work expresses a contemporary aesthetic reflective of paleolithic cave paintings, Alaskan totemic art and American Indian petroglyphs. Putterman employs styles for knitting together the miscellaneous components of these huge scale works, which can range in size up to 68" x 70". Methods such as black block outlining and rhythmic arrangements offer strong compositional comfort, making Putterman's work ethereally yet playfully captivating in the vein of Chagall and Matisse.

Ched Djordjievski

Figurative will also present the three dimensional work of Cedomir "Ched" Djordjievski. His lifesize, wood sculptures are masterfully carved. Djordjievski studied and worked with two of Macedonia's premier carvers before continuing sculpture training in England. He later earned a masters degree in sculpture from New Mexico State University. He currently resides in Ormond Beach, but his work is coveted worldwide. Djordjievski has created commissioned art work internationally, including bronze statues of Saint Francis, Sir Isaac Newton and William Shakespeare. He is represented by numerous galleries in California, New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona.

The Figurative exhibition will be accompanied by a workshop with visiting artists on Saturday, September 16. For more information on registration, please contact the museum at 386-676-3347 or email at omam78e@aol.com.
