SMT TALENT WALTZES BACK FOR

A Little Night Music

JUNE 29 – JULY 9 at The News-Journal Center

Daytona Beach, FL, June 22, 2006 - SMT continues its 30th Anniversary Season with just a little midsummer madness! The champagne bubbles. The sun never seems to set. And the characters in this sexy Stephen Sondheim work of art can’t help but give in to the passions that arouse them in Seaside Music Theater’s production of the multiple Tony Award-winning masterpiece, A Little Night Music.

This musical is not a love triangle. It’s a love PARALLELOGRAM, with all kinds of temptation running rampant, criss-crossing time, age, and matrimonial status. When middle-aged Frederik Egerman (Nicholas Wuehrmann) realizes that his young, virgin bride, Anne (Chris Staffel), has little intention of consummating their union, he finds emotional and physical solace in the arms of past flame, Desiree Armfeldt (Julia Truilo), for whom his romantic interest is rekindled. But Desiree has been carrying on an affair with jealous and married Carl Magnus (James Haase), who is reluctant to let her go. To complicate matters, Egerman’s son, Henrik (Michael Marcotte), a divinity student, is in love with his stepmother. All of this infatuation, desire, and infidelity come to a head when all of the above end up spending a surprising weekend in the country together at Armfeldt’s family estate!

SMT is honored to have an abundance of accomplished talent for the cast of A Little Night Music, all under the direction of William Thiesen, who has directed over 100 productions for theater and opera companies from coast to coast. Lourelene Snedeker (Madame Armfeldt), a founding SMT company member, is a two-time Carbonell Award Winner, and a 10-time Carbonell Award nominee. Jay Aubrey Jones (Mr. Lindquist) has appeared on Broadway in Cats and How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and has appeared on television and film in The Ripper, One Life to Live, Guiding Light, As the World Turns, All My Children, and Whitewash. And SMT audience favorite, Michelle Knight (Petra), who played Belle in both of SMT’s productions of Beauty and the Beast, recently returned from the Broadway tour of Annie.

The incredible amount of talent and experience alone is sure to make this production one of SMT’s most memorable. Add to that one of Sondheim’s most beautifully-written musicals, including the well-known ballad, “Send in the Clowns,” breathtaking costumes designed by Stacey Galloway, and a gorgeous set designed by Adam Rowe, and a perfect night at the theater is inevitable.

A Little Night Music will be performed on the Josephine Field Davidson Stage within the News-Journal Center on the following dates: June 29, 8pm (Preview); June 30, 8pm (Open); July 1, 8pm; July 2, 2pm; July 5, 2pm & 8pm; July 6, 8pm; July 7, 8pm; July 8, 2pm & 8pm; July 9, 2pm (Close).

SMT gratefully acknowledges A Little Night Music sponsors: Subway, The Daytona Beach News-Journal, N.T. Vincent Insurance, Glenn Vincent
