RAY BRADBURY’S “THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES” TO LAND AT SANDS THEATER CENTER ON JUNE 9 AT 7:30 PM

MAY 26, 2006-DeLAND, FL- The Sands Theater Center Storybook Theater Company will be presenting middle and high school students in a production of Ray Bradbury’s “The Martian Chronicles” beginning at 7:30 PM, June 9, and continuing at 2:30 PM, June 10 and 11. Additional performances will be on June 16 at 7:30 PM, and June 17 & 18 at 2:30 PM. The June 18th Father’s Day performance will feature a special raffle drawing for a present for “Dad.” The theater is located at 600 N. Woodland Blvd. in DeLand, across the street from Stetson University. Tickets for all performances are $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12. The box office can be reached at 386-736-7456, T-F from 12-4. The shows will be general admission seating in our Mainstage.

“The Martian Chronicles” is a science fiction classic that begins with a rocket launch in “snowy” Florida and ends with a message that is important to remember in these swiftly moving times. This production is directed by David L. Finkle, Southwestern Middle School teacher and local cartoonist, who has been a frequent fixture on the Sands Theater stage. There are 20 actors playing 60 parts- the youngest actor is 10 and the oldest is 18.

This is truly an opportunity for the community to come out and support the talents and efforts of our young people. Ray Bradbury’s bibliographer, Donn Albright, has generously sent the theater a signed copy of the book “The Martian Chronicles,” and it will be on display before the shows and at intermission.
