(Daytona Beach, Fla., 3/20/2006) - Six Daytona Beach Community College (DBCC) art students earned awards at the College Challenge Biennial, hosted by the Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens, located at 78 E. Granada Blvd.

DBCC took six of the 15 awards presented at the opening reception, including the top award, "Best in Show." Awards:

  • Jason Bethea - "Best in Show" for his "Jazz I" drawing.
  • Mathew Salazar - "Distinction Award" for his "Pre-School Flashback" drawing.
  • Eric Price - "Merit Award" for his untitled drawing.
  • Charles Wermer - "Honorable Mention" for his "Self Portrait" painting.
  • Kaloyan Ivanov - "Honorable Mention" for his "Spring, Summer, Fall" painting.
  • Jane Lewandowski - "Honorable Mention" for her "Blue Jean Baby" ceramic sculpture.
The exhibition, which continues through April 23, features two and three-dimensional works by 50 to 70 students from fine-art academic programs at DBCC, Stetson University, Flagler College and the Florida School of the Arts in Palatka.

The exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $2; senior citizens, students and children are admitted free.
